economy rocked

our economy is being rocked, by greed
winter is coming and fuel costs are high
good jobs are gone, long gone overseas
fishing jobs are long time gone
ways of lives are changing
changing like the autumn leaves
falling like autumn leaves
yet
i know as the trees know
that yes winter will come but
so will spring and then summer, fall winter
spring and so on and so on in this journey
we are all on. this fabulous fantastic journey, this challenge, our will to never give up,
and to quote Dylan Thomas:

"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

The first full day of fall

the soft cool breezes are blowing the
beginning changing leaves around
the yard and garden are dying back
the crickets are not chirping
but the cicadads are
and have a lowly hum
the gray squirrel climbs slowly head first
down the big maple tree
the milk sky is suspended
like this morning

Reverse Birthdays

OK so tomorrow is my birthday
I'm going to start a new tradition
"birthday in reverse"
that's right, I'm losing a year starting with this birthday
and continuing on till I'm about oh 5 and then
reversing again
it's a new lease on life
me saying to myself that i am not moving towards that dark night, nay!
I am walking to the bright light of my future
where there is nothing I cannot do
where nothing is impossible
where love abounds
where possibilities are limitless
yep, reverse birthdays they are a new tradition!

northern scarlet morning

northern scarlet morning
i hear the squawking voices of many a gathering geese on the magical salt marshes
how wonderful it is!
cacophonous joyous hopeful music
everyone gathering together for their early morning flight south

the golden orb rising from the far east
shining its light thru the maple
making me take a second look
because the green leaves now look like
they've changed color overnight
no it's just the sun coming up
coloring the morning

Algae Fuel Our New “Green Industrial Revolution”!

Algae, the Emeralds of Bio Fuels

Algae fuel is an exciting word today! Especially in the world of alternative fuels. You’ve seen them, (algae pond scum) and there’s probably nothing greener except Emeralds, than the wee algae pond scum. Algae are tiny nature made biological factories that use photosynthesis to transform carbon dioxide and sunlight into energy. They are so efficient at this that they can double their weight several times a day!

Part of this photosynthesis process, is that algae produces oil and can generate 15 times more oil per acre than other plants used for biofuels, such as corn and switchgrass. Algae can grow in salt water, freshwater, salt water marshes or even contaminated water, in the ocean or in ponds, and on marginal land not suitable for food production.

Above is a rendition of one of the possibilities of production of Algae Fuel. As you can see algae fuel production makes sense. It uses existing water and then reuses it again. Our precious water resources are minimized and used wisely. Algae fuel leaves a small carbon footprint, all the while cleaning up sewage and petrochemicals. I see this new world as one in which we start our own new “Green Industrial Revolution”. One where we are cognizant and vigilant of our energy action. Isn’t it about time we cleaned up after ourselves? Isn’t it wonderful that science, nature and ecology have given us all that chance to just pass go and go green!
